Rave Reviews For Eagles After Argentina Match
The Super Eagles were given a great review everywhere following a good showing despite 0-1 loss to Argentina at the Ellis Park on Saturday.

A gutsy showing against one of the tournament favourites could even have earned a draw if the Nigerians had some luck on their side, but the man for whom the biggest praise is reserved is goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.

Enyeama was awarded the Budweiser Man of the Match marble after what he personally termed “my best –ever performance”.

All over radio and television and Sunday newspapers, the Eagles were commended for not going down easily, and going truly for broke despite conceeding a sixth minute goal from a corner kick.

Players like Taye Taiwo, Chinedu Obasi, Yakubu Ayegbeni, Obafemi Martins and Lukman Haruna were much praised, and most people believe the two –time African champions should overcome Greece and Korea Republic in their remaining group phase matches.

Members of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, members of the NFF Congress, eminent dignitaries from government, leaders and staff of the Nigeria High Commission in South Africa, members of the Nigeria community here and even South Africans showered encomimums on the boys for not only playing with gusto but also as good sportsmen, as advised by the Leader of Federal Government delegation to the tournament, Senate President David Mark during the visit of Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan on Friday night.

Nigeria got only one yellow card in the game, by Lukman Haruna, and played a very clean game, making nonsense of talk by Argentina Coach and legend Diego Maradona on the eve of the match that “the Nigeria team is rough and hard”.
